Home Energy Makeover Trailer Summer 2012 Tour

Shelburne, September 22, 2012: The VNRC celebrated 50 years of service to Vermont at Shelburne Farms and invited us to bring the trailer to the celebration. Paul Zabriskie and our colleague (and Weatherization Skillshop/Button Up Vermont instructor), Russ Flanigan, staffed the trailer for the event. We were pleased to participate in this wonderful event and shared our summer tour experiences with our conservation community. Check out the beautiful parking space!

Manchester, August 18, 2012:  As part of the Perfect House contest, the trailer make a stop in Manchester, VT. Visitors toured the trailer exhibit, took part in demonstrations of air-sealing and insulation techniques, tried out tools and materials, and received information about options for Vermont homeowners to take on a home energy renovation project. Sponsored by the Perfect House Committee.

Barre, July 27-28, 2012: We joined our own community in the Barre Heritage Days celebration. Lots of our friends and neighbors toured the trailer (which they often see parked at our building and we hear, ‘Hey, what is that?’), learned about air-sealing and insulation, and about the options they have to make their home more comfortable and efficient.

Tinmouth, July 20-22, 2012: What a great time we had at SolarFest! So many folks stopped by the trailer who have done some work in their homes, and were looking to do even more! This crowd is all about energy efficiency and we were honored to be part of the BIG message… conservation AND renewables!

S. Burlington, July 12, 2012: The South Burlington Energy Committee asked us to bring to trailer to the town offices and be available for demos and information for a condo association embarking on a big energy renovation project. More than 40 visitors toured the trailer and we had many great conversations about what they might expect with regards to the work and the resulting energy savings.

Montpelier, June 30, 2012: Congratulations to the Montpelier Energy Team who won the Vermontivate contest to promote energy efficiency measures to residents! The grand prize was community ice cream social, and we were invited to bring the trailer and share in the success! We saw more than 600 visitors on this beautiful summer day and they all learned a little more about how they can make their home more comfortable and efficient.

Brattleboro, June 2, 2012: It was a long way to Brattleboro, and the weather did not cooperate, but we had a great time anyway at the Live Green Expo, part of the annual Strolling of the Heifers celebration. Visitors dodged the raindrops and learned about the cracks and gaps in their home that can lead to big-time energy (heat) loss.

Montpelier, May 15, 2012: Associated General Contractors invited us to participate in their annual Construction Career Day at their facility in Montpelier. Hands-on demos (yes, in the rain!) kept students occupied. They like challenging their classmates in the foam gun operation, and cutting flashing for the chimney. Our instructors enjoyed working with the next generation of building scientists, builders, and other tradespeople.

Randolph, May 12, 2012: Motivated homeowners attended the Energy Expo at Vermont Technical College in Randolph. We conducted hands-on trainings all morning for a steady flow of homeowners starting on spring home improvement projects. They came in thinking of replacing windows and left the event planning to schedule energy assessments!
